Was the Press Club moribund?
Royal Decree 106/2007 which cancels Royal Decree 88/98 relating to the Press Club, has just been announced.
Does this mean that the Press Club was totally moribund, since all fixed and movable assets are now transferred to the Ministry of Information? What did it do, if anything?
Does the new decree have any impact on press freedom and rights of journalists, or have these been enshrined elsewhere?
Maybe a member of Oman's press corps will be able to explain.

Well, no direct response from a journalist, but the Khaleej Times has published an item on the winding up of the Press Club today at http://www.khaleejtimes.com...

(the url has had to be split into two parts).
Instead, there will be a joint headquarter complex for the Oman Cinema Association, Oman Journalists Association and Oman Writers Association. Construction will be supervised by the Ministry of Social Development. Hmm. That's a deal of government intervention.
The positive spin is that the government is trying to get Oman writers, journalists and cinema moguls to take a more active part in organising themselves and generating creativity.
Any takes on that?
